Description

Advantix is a widely available and popular monthly spot-on topical treatment for comprehensive external parasite control in dogs.
Key Benefits
  • Broad-Spectrum Action: Kills and repels fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, sandflies, stable flies, and biting lice.
  • “No Bite” Protection: Unlike oral medications, the active ingredients (imidacloprid and permethrin) work on contact, killing parasites before they bite the dog, which reduces the risk of transmitting diseases like ehrlichiosis or heartwater.
  • Flea Life Cycle Control: Kills adult fleas within one day, kills flea eggs and larvae in the surrounding environment, and controls Flea Allergy Dermatitis (FAD).
  • Water-Resistant: The treatment remains effective after swimming or shampooing, provided the dog is dry before application and for at least 48 hours after application.
  • Safety: Can be used on puppies from 7 weeks of age (and over 1.5 kg in weight) and is safe for pregnant and lactating bitches when used as directed.
Active Ingredients
The formulation available in South Africa contains:
  • Imidacloprid (10%)
  • Permethrin (50%)
Application and Dosage
  • Application: The entire contents of the pipette are applied topically to the skin along the dog’s back. For smaller dogs (<25kg), apply in 1-2 spots between the shoulder blades. For larger dogs (>25kg), apply evenly to 3-4 spots along the back from the shoulder blades to the base of the tail.
  • Dosage: The product comes in different weight categories:
    • Small Dogs: 1.5 – 4 kg
    • Medium Dogs: 4 – 10 kg
    • Large Dogs: 10 – 25 kg
    • Extra Large Dogs: Over 25 kg (up to 40 kg with one tube; combination for larger dogs)
CRITICAL WARNING: TOXIC TO CATS
Advantix is extremely poisonous to cats due to the permethrin content and can be fatal if ingested or applied.
  • Ensure cats are kept separate from a recently treated dog until the application site is completely dry (for up to 48 hours).
  • If a cat is accidentally exposed, seek veterinary attention immediately.
