Description

Terramycin LA (Long Acting) is a broad-spectrum injectable antibiotic for cattle, sheep, goats, and pigs. It is a ready-to-use solution containing 200 mg/ml of oxytetracycline and is designed to provide sustained therapeutic blood levels for 3 to 5 days after a single injection.
Key Product Details
  • Active Ingredient: Oxytetracycline 200 mg/ml.
  • Function: Provides prolonged antibiotic treatment against conditions caused by oxytetracycline-susceptible organisms, which is useful when frequent animal handling is not practical.
  • Species: Used only in cattle, sheep, goats, and swine. It is not recommended for use in dogs, cats, or horses.
  • Administration: Administered via deep intramuscular (IM) injection. For young pigs (<10 kg), a subcutaneous (SC) injection behind the ear is preferred. Do not inject intravenously.
Indications for Use
Terramycin LA is used for treating various bacterial infections and tick-borne diseases in cattle, sheep, goats, and pigs, including conditions like anaplasmosis, heartwater, pneumonia, footrot, and joint ill.
Dosage and Administration
The recommended single dose is 1 ml per 10 kg of body weight, providing 20 mg of oxytetracycline per kg. To minimize irritation, do not inject more than 10 ml at one intramuscular site in cattle or more than 5 ml in sheep and goats. Doses for pigs over 100 kg should be divided between two sites.
Warnings and Withdrawal Periods
A meat withdrawal period of 28 days is required before animals can be slaughtered for human consumption. Milk from treated cows cannot be used for human consumption for 5 days after the last treatment, and it should not be used in ewes producing milk for human consumption. Terramycin LA is for veterinary use only. Avoid administering it to piglets on the same day as iron injections, and note that temporary swelling at the injection site can occur. Always consult a veterinarian for diagnosis and treatment.
